How do you get past the weight limit of batteries? How do you plan on armoring the weapons so they don't explode? How do you contain the energy and heat? Alienoverlord: Back to the example of the Ion Engine. It will take hundreds of kilowatts, in which a large solar array on a spacecraft can't handle it. For your immense tesla coil cannon things, it needs likely even more then an ion engine so therefore each of your contraptions will take a massive solar farm to work. And no, not batteries, as the coil's electricity can simply charge right into the battery and destroy it -
