    @everyone calling this the phases of the moon, technically you are correct, the moons phases happen because of this, but this is not only the phases of the moon. any spherical object lit by a point source of light is lit this way. If i'd made the sphere any colour other than grey it would not look like the moon.

    @everyone complaining about lag, it's laggy on puropose. delete the protons then try to see what's going on in the animation :/
