    It is really 2 systems. the set point changes the TSNS in the heater which is connect to a NOT gate which controls heating/cooling alternately. the temp reader (bottom controller) works like the original digital thermometer. it gets a sample of DMND DRAY'd to it. It has its own servo loop to find the correct TSNS that best matches the sample and reports that value. the tiny device in the middle controls the heater pulse rate.

    I mean, the heater/cooler and the control circuit are physically separated.

    @DoritosTaco: Well, I mean, a hot plate is essentially a warm countertop anyway, albiet in a smaller scale.
