I stick a bunch of satellites in a polar orbit around the Sun so that the aliens will have to completely encircle the Sun with dirty bombs to block signals. Also, what planet are you from? Pretty sure it's October...

I send an expeditionary force over to New Zealand and colonize it, I then build a second large launch pad on a similar scale to the Northern one. I also launch 2 satellites that will orbit around the sun, these will get a short period of time in the orbit window then the 'dirty bomb' will not be able to block line of sight, allowing signals to be intercepted, just to study your language and comms systems :)
