I never said that Force L had to survive. And .7c speeds ensure that kinetic energy is enough to make sure that the Vanguard craft have enough kinetic energy to continue on their paths uninterrupted. Payload X is actually several significantly sized asteroids of metallic nature, reinforced by alloys infused internally at the beginning of the invasion when Novus Forces first set up "long term establishements"

How do you plan to withstand impacts with iron spheres at 0.7 c? No matter how much armor or shields you have, that's going to have more power than a nuke hitting your ships directly.

Same with thermal detection. Space warfare would actually probably be just spamming tons of nukes, projectiles and lasers.
