It would already be on a suborbital trajectory. It will take you a few months at the least to build that probe.

That's oddly convient. I launch the small satelite and have it wipe the ARM craft's data storage and put it into a proper orbit

Cody's ARM mission appears to be deorbiting, with the entire asteroid attached. Standard radio communication shows that it will hit where the island used to be.

I suppose that how that would work is the mechanism that writes to the disk just isn't included

Okay then so I build a small satelite wit lots of RCS and a docking port compatible with what ever is on cody's ARM spacecraft that has a HDD that the OS is stored on that cannot be written to by design and only do the thing that it is told to on the HDD.
