    GPMP can definitely be covered up, though the covering itself is vulnerable to certain things (fusion weapons come to mind, as well as precisely-aimed BOMB launchers). If it doesn't break the ship, its advantages generally outweigh its vulnerabilities.

    I went over the hull with NGRV and even at very high strength there doesn't seem to be any huge structural problems.

    That was my main worry about the breakable materials. The PROT problem can be solved by each GPMP having its own personal node, surrounded by 2 layers INSL and 1 layer VOID.

    Yeah, GPMP can be a really good shield BUT it can mess with breakable materials nearby, and it does horrible things if even one PROT gets through and hits the GPMP directly. It's the best option for a force-field type defence, but it has definite issues.
