in atmosphere speed is required so many powerful engines would be needed and the and the gravity generators are used when in atmosphere to support the ship.

it needs to be supported by gravity generators or it will colapse under its own mass. when landed or it's heavy enough to create gravity field?

i agree with alex_15759. the fuel tank is vrey easily puntured and ends in half the ship melting and on fire.

Being a carrier, speed is not exactly the most important thing. For such a large ship I think armour is more essential. Despite the protection of the hangar and storage being fairly good, the deuterium fuel storage is incredibly easy to puncture... which could lead to large explosions... very large ones.

the acceleration to maximum speed is faster so you can be at your destination faster which is important if you need to protect a world from threat.

Not that I am an astro-physisist, but I am pretty sure of that.

@the_new_powder99999, Indeed, it doesn't need to be fast, once it gets to full speed momentum keeps it going because there is no friction in space.

I don't see why a carrier needs to be fast, the ships it deploys are the only things that needs to be fast, and long distance travel takes almost the same time no matter how powerful the engines are.
