I recently got the Kerbal space program. it helped me to apreciate this spectacular machine! This is a highly simplified version of NASAs famous Saturn V (moon) rocket. i will be working on more in-depth closeups later. Enjoy!

i don't think they get aerospace-grade kerosene by fractional distillation of crude oil. but it's still sad that we can't find a cleaner fuel with similar eficiency. personally i think ion-propulsion is the answer as we start traversing longer distances. we could use old-fassioned chemical rockets to get out of the atmosphere, then ion jets for traverse-burns, and chemical rockets to slow down again at the other end. it's not perfect. but it's better.

spark the rocket...

all the stages of the Saturn V ran on LOX and LH2 except the first stage which ran on kerosene (hydrocarbon mixture ranging C12H26 to C15H32) and LOX.

Yea, kerosene is used a lot in stuff. I'm still kinda sad that oil has to be used. but atleast its better than burning tires! and once you get the working version, i can't wait to see the J-2 engines activate.
