    I can't even make a glass maker without the lava turing to stone and sneaking through my "powder only" wall and then turining back to lava. what the hell am I supposed to do?

    make it so the upgrades cost money, get help from others if you have too, they can build part of it, and you can all paste them together on a special save file.
