  Well, the amount of DMND could in theory be reduced to just a single, two pixel thick, wall to mediate the fusion and fission reactions, if there were a reliable way to filter out neutrons from the fusion reaction, you could build the fusion chamber out of C-5, which would be just as good as DMND if no neutrons or anything cold got to it.

  also, the engine works, but we would be hard pressed to find a material that equals diamond for strength and heat transfer capacity, without it being cheaty. plus having a fission and fusion reaction at the same time mens it suffers fom the same safety problems as regular deut engines
