@Death_Silence_66 A wise woman once said "I would rather have a gun and not use it, then need a gun and not have one" (may have stolen it off of Alien vs Predator). Basically, if the whole galaxy goes to war then you would want to be in the biggest, baddest, most well armed ship out there.

If there are no present threats, then why build a massive flagship? other than the obvious reason because its awesome.

@Death_Silence_66 It is ~886km at the moment, although that is likely to change. A Rift won't be neccesary, there aren't any threats at the moment, and the flagship wouldn't be the one responding to them if there were any.
