It's basically just a strong glass. It's pointless being on TPT.

Obsidian is a real material, it's just Mojang used it in Minecraft. There is a lot of obsidian necklace!

Also, to whoever suggested it break down in water, this happens on a time scale of many millenia, not minutes or seconds. And it turns into a stony material. Also, I would find it odd that something that is nearly acid-proof would not be nearly water-proof.

Also, Obsidian is not only like quartz and glass, it is 70% SiO2 by mass, meaning it is 70% the same thing.

Also, remember that obsidian forms from stony ingredients, if you get metals to do this quick-freezing, you will get a metallic glass, which is bouncier, arguably harder, and much stronger to impacts than regular steels. If you do this to water, you get one of several really odd denser (not very floaty) forms of ice (at atmospheric pressure, the water has to go from 0 to -137 C in a few milliseconds)

Yeah, Obsidian forms when certain types of lava are quick-frozen sufficiently fast that they fail to crystalize. They could probably form in a vacuum or near-vacuum if a properly built space radiator was used to cool them.

@-Tra-Ranger: have you ever actually been to an obsidian flow? There is stone and dark glass, the dark glass stuff is obsidian, it shatters, it is semi-translucent, and it is way more scratch-resistant than stone and generates extremely sharp blade-like gravel. I have cut myself on obsidian while trying to cut a bandage using obsidian for someone who cut themselves on obsidian.
