    @mermwerm Lets see, you can use aluminum, magnesium, silicon, titanium, and other metals as the fuel, and silicon, copper, iron, and lead oxides, or other metal oxides as oxidizers. In fact, there is a great resource called the internet where you can learn more.

    and hewy, you can buy a magnesium fire starter from a camping store, for around ten dollars. sorry for cluttering up the comments.

    lillepallt, thermite isn't used as a weapon or for hobbies, and anything other than iron (III) oxide mixed with aluminum is NOT thermite. I'm a chemist, goddamnit.

    @Hewy You can buy it from Amazon or eBay. Search for Magnesium Ribbon. You should be able to get about 7m+ for $15
