What are groups?

They are basically user-created communities. It takes the form of a subforum, so it's like you have your own private forum that people can apply to join.
There were a few very active groups back in the day. But only a few. 99% of groups were junk, with only the owner as a member.
Overall the system was very flawed and buggy. Searchability was zero, and you could easily lock yourself out of the system. If you got into an active group, the formatting and look of it was also buggy, and most people had to install a userscript to fix it.
I disabled new group creation and joins several years ago. But I keep existing groups around as an archive. If you're already a member, you can still comment technically. But nobody actually does this, every group is dead. -
Are there any plans for a new group system? Maybe one where a player can request the opening of a group or a report system like saves have?

No, the userbase isn't large enough to support that. It would be even more inactive than the last attempt. It would be a huge development burden for little gain. -
honestly tpt is dying, i dont see as much people on tpt anymore, All i do on tpt now is just check on it, occasionaly. Every now and then i join tptmp, or check saves. Groups would be pretty dead....

imo groups should return as tpt will get more active people (like few(~5) years ago unlike now just few people post something pretty rarely)
but group making should be regulated by staff reading some kind of thing like google forms appeals(or however is it called) to make groups, with few words given why mods should approve and make this group
