I cant seem to get any version past 26.11 to work, after that windows comes up with a message saying the program has stopped working and needs to be closed. I am currently running windows 7 with all the latest updates and drivers.

I also tried it on my Ubuntu partition and it just came up with a message saying my CPU is not supported. I am using an AMD Athlon XP 3200+ (a bit outdated I know).

any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Then I'm sorry, it looks like you're not going to be able to run the Powder Toy.
