Heat annoyance...

Why is it that an element has to touch something hot or cold to change temperature? It doesn't make much sense... for example.

a normal piece of metal surrounded by hotter metal doesn't change temperature. I want to know why. Why is there no temperature change when an object is surrounded by a hotter/colder object without touching it.

Because air doesn't cunduct heat if "Ambient Heat" is disabled. It is disabled by default. Enable it with the "A" button on the right or by pressing the 'u' key.
