I think those users from November 2010 won't answer you... :C

    Also, what a necroposting.

It's fine in this case. But a new thread would have been a lot better

It's usually good etiquette to then create your own topic rather than necropost one that has been resolved seven years ago.

Also, you don't burn sand, you melt it. Sand isn't a pure, fine powder on it's own. It's just silicon dioxide, quartz and a few other little bits of stuff jumbled together.

To heat/cool sand without using the HEAT/COOL tools, people often look to using the Game of life (GOL) parts to regulate temperature. While they move, they are extremely hot, and while they're static, they are extremely cold, making them practical for temperature regulation. I'm pretty sure you could fine something on it in the wiki.

If you are going for realism though, then they are a bit of a cheat. Alternatively, to cool you could use liquid nitrogen and a CLNE to have it pour onto the glass to cool it, and have a CLNE that produces OXYG, then add fire. (That should push temperatures to around the 1000C range). You could also use URAN under pressure, however that might cause the pressure to jumble the molten sand everywhere.
