This is a working model of the Tupolev 119 / Tu95 lal. A nuclear powered Russian plane for testing purposes. The inner engines are nuclear powered, the outer are conventional NK-12 turboprops. The engines are started by sparking the button once. T:>20h

Its the radiation, the crew as only allowed to fly 48hours, and even that was too long. All crew members where killed due to the radiation.

@stephane209; The TU-95 also has those double contra rotating turboprops. (NK-12) Only the 2 inner engines are different from the TU-95. If operating on nuclear power only the fuel isn't the problem.

Whew. Pretty nice artwork on the aluminum. I guess the double-propellers were to get the best out of the nuclear engine. So, how often do you need to re-fuel?

The TU95 has a top speed of 920km/h. The nuclear engines are less powerful than the conventional ones, so the top speed of the TU119 would be below 920km/h.
