    zxaaw, yes, but the filaments do not stand out as much against the galaxy itself. This is what I mean. Usually a galaxy does not have such a clear pattern.

    zxaaw: I am not aware of any galaxy that would have such pronounced filaments even in specific wavelengths... Although, yes, those IR and UV telescopes usually do reveal more filament details than visible light.
