I'm thinking the red wisps come from the H-alpha line and are hence hydrogen, else are mere cosmic dust reflecting these pigments.

@powderskye No, it means thou art of the honourable lads. :) I'm personally just getting started with astrophotography with my 8" Schmidt Cassegrain. The cosmos is quite fascinating. Thence you have a lad asking why VIP84 put "useless red deco" in his Andromeda save; "have these people ever Googled galaxy images before???"
